The interview is not over when you leave the room. Three small actions in the following days improve your chances this time, and every time after.
- 1Within 24 hours, send a short thank-you message to the person who invited you (email if they emailed you, WhatsApp if that is how they contacted you). Three sentences: thank you, one thing you liked about the conversation, you remain very interested.
- 2The same day, write down every question you were asked and how you answered. This is your question bank for the next interview; the same questions come back.
- 3Warn your referees that a call may come, and remind them which job it is for. A referee who is surprised gives a weak reference.
- 4If they gave a decision date, wait until three working days after it, then send one polite follow-up. If they gave no date, follow up after two weeks. Once is enough.
- 5Keep applying elsewhere until you have signed a contract. A verbal “you did well” is not an offer.
